Gods Love Murder
by Christopher Coleman-Craig
Christopher Coleman-Craig opens the door to the darker side of things in his devastating poetry collection, Gods Love Murder.
The collection is an exploration into the sad and debauched realities of life, the loss of innocence, the illicit and taboo, and the forgotten debris that people often discard from their lives. Coleman-Craig gets into the details of these themes, sustaining the dire emotional undertones in his poems effortlessly. As if holding a partiality for the dirty and sordid, Coleman-Craig successfully details the agonies and penalties of existence, even as our own gods offer precious little navigational help.

DOORS CLOSE
doors open dream catcher canceling the way
devil laughing blue at the skull of the day
gold tongue of the father turning tin blackish
mother's eyes flashing green sacred
shades
hues that have nothing to with me
wrists ankles tied to the old oak open
widening into family history
justified mendacity
truth in squiggles
scriptures in musty glassy libraries
ancient messages hidden in strange backward reading
I know where ex-lovers go
the pit at the bottom of the heart
where blood runs black & thick
where the heart bends into itself
& the butcher blames the lamb for bloodying his clothes
I am guilty ashamed
your voice like broken glass
scraping words into my skin list of lovers
litany of faults
bloodlets surfacing in tiny tattooed agreement
there is a world you don't live in
another that distracts me
rule your world with trust
& the thrust of a domestic knife
blade glistening
I'll get the door
